Josie and Ryan // Jonkers Farm New Zealand Wedding
Boho Mexican Fiesta Wedding in Waitakere, New Zealand
Just outside of Auckland, on New Zealand’s North Island is an area called Waitakere, somewhere we would probably never visit if it weren’t for Josie and Ryan. This has to be one of our favourite things about wedding photography, you’re invited to places you may otherwise never know existed and get blown away by locations only locals know about. We had the absolute privilege of travelling to New Zealand to be a part of Josie and Ryan’s wedding, a day that had us full of excitement and gratitude from start to finish.
We arrived the day before to scout locations and meet Josie and Ryan in person and from the moment we set foot on the Jonkers Farm property we knew it was going to be good. Josie and Ryan welcomed us like old friends as they finished the setup for the following day and we got to take in the incredible 540 acres of natural beauty that is Jonkers Farm. Our minds were blown by the most stunning vistas, rolling green hills, woodland and ocean views, just a dream.
It isn’t hard to see why Jonkers Farm is also used for commercials and movie sets, Josie was even allowed to get ready on site in a character-filled cottage that looked a hundred years old but had actually been recently built as part of a film set. Needless to say we were like kids in a candy shop, literally everything was photogenic, including Josie and Ryan and their crew.
Josie and Ryan opted for a first look before the ceremony, so that the day flowed seamlessly from their gorgeous ceremony in the woods to their Mexican fiesta in Teepee Tents, but we couldn’t help stealing just the two of them away at sunset for some more portraits. We were literally losing it, being driven around the incredible Jonkers Farm property on an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) taking in the glorious scenery and golden light, before stopping atop a hill to be greeted by the most epic view. Excited and enthusiastic both seem like understatements, we, along with our good friend and videographer, Joel Tronoff were overwhelmed with joy, ecstatic to be shooting with such cool people in such a beautiful place.
Another special part of Josie and Ryan’s wedding, was when Josie surprised her mum and Ryan with a highland dance, honouring her Scottish heritage and also dancing for Ryan who had never seen her highland dance before.
Needless to say we were so very grateful to be invited by Josie and Ryan to venture across the Tasman and document their day.
Thank you J & R.
